Unfortunately, wind and solar power installations are by their nature intermittent power sources. A drastic drop in output from a natural gas, coal or nuclear power plant is an anomaly. They're relatively rare. In wind and solar power stations, it happens daily. So far there is no practical solution for wind and solar other than dependency on base load (fossil fuel, nuclear, hydro) power plants to make up the difference and the hope that battery technology improves a lot.<br /><br /><br />Yes you are right. Yet the blackout was a result of the wind farms not riding through the low voltage! That is clearly stated in the AEMO report. The modelling of wind power in extremely stressed scenario is still a research topic. The system response/wind plant response to extremely stressed situations will not be accurately depicted by using current models!
